My dad never did anything horrifying. But my mom did. She love to spank me bare butt in public. The more people the better for her. She spanked me in front of the line of kids waiting to see Santa. She also did it at the public pool and in the school parking lot when school was letting out. Even family gathering of her side of the family was fair game for her. Thank God there were no cell phones back then or I would be all over the internet. Went into a place for a drink called the Liberty Bar which was near a Megabus stops. Not the first time I’d been, but a decade separated my visits from singing Karaoke with an Irish fella (from Ireland) to getting a confused look by a bar girl when asking for a diet Coke as I wanted something cold and refreshing after a long journey to Philly. Girl couldn’t understand a word I was saying (I have a fairly thick Cockney accent) and we both seemed to be getting pissed off. A mate of mine stepped in and in a gentler accent ordered two diet cokes without issue.

Last one, getting a Megabus from Philly to NYC, a woman carrying a dog which is freezing caught my attention, I’m a dog person and go over to stroke the dog. Turns out the woman has missed her bus and was trying to figure out what to do. While she’s doing that, I take my coat off and wrap it around the dog and then by 3 or 4 people come over to coo over the dog. One woman asks if I was cold (I was), but the dog needed for coat more than me. She instantly recognises the accent and asked if I was from the East End! Fair enough she recognised a London accent but I was surprised she had an educated guess at the part of London I’m from.
